Medical
Sailing and crewing aboard any sailing yacht can at times be physically demanding. Your course with Sail Nelson involves being fully involved in the operation of the boat. We undertake passages of several hours and spend nights on anchor in beautiful and remote locations with no road access. For your own safety and the safety of all on board please advise us of any medical conditions that might affect your ability to fully participate in the course. If you are unsure then please consult with your GP.
Please advise of any prescription medicine that you will be taking whilst on board.
This information will be shared with your instructor/ skipper but will otherwise remain confidential within Sail Nelson. If you have no medical conditions please state “none”
Cancellation Insurance
Please ensure you take out adequate travel/cancellation insurance. We require a deposit payment to confirm your place on the course, with the balance payable no later than 14 days before the course begins. If you have to cancel for any reason your deposit and balance are non-refundable, unless we are able to rebook your place on the course, in which case we will refund your payments, minus a 10% administration fee. In the unlikely event that Sail Nelson has to cancel the course we will offer an alternative date or a full refund.
Safe Conduct
By joining the course, you agree to behave in a safe and appropriate manner at all times, as defined by your skipper/instructor. Intoxication through alcohol, or any recreational drug taking, is not permitted. For the comfort and safety of all on board smoking is discouraged, but permitted on deck at the discretion of the skipper.
Skipper’s responsibility
Your instructor is the legal skipper and is in charge of the vessel at all times. Your instructor’s decisions are final in all matters concerning the operation and running of the yacht. If you have a complaint or a problem, we will do everything in our power to make it right. Please raise it with your instructor as soon as possible. Should this not be appropriate, or if you are unsatisfied with the outcome, notify Sail Nelson of your concerns, in writing, within 30 days. Should the matter remain unresolved, contact NZ Coastguard Boating Education PO Box 2195, Auckland.
